Further Six Sigma?
The term "Six Sigma" was conceptualized and coined by Motorola Inc. In the mid 80’s a team of brilliant business strategiest from Motorola concurred that an effective combination of structured and organized brainstorming tools and methodologies, combined with quantitative sciences [ statistics, probability and mathematics ] had the potential to transform businesses, providing them a quantum leap in performance and growth.
When the idea of Six Sigma first came up at Motorola , the application domain of statistical quality assurance , statistical process control and process capability had been prevalent in the manufacturing industry since the mid 70’s, but was usually being employed on a adhoc tactical level.
Heavily borrowing from these two domains and innovatively packaging it with other visualization based brainstorming tools at one end of the spectrum and advanced statistical & mathematical models at the other end of the spectrum.....Motorola coined the term "Six Sigma". In the mid 90’s Jack Welch of GE adopted and fine-tuned it even further. In about a decade of its adoption six sigma transformed GE into the most valuable company in the world.
